Todays Happenings on the Farm

Our day started on a very bright note when we discovered that Bluebirds have nested in a Terra Cotta birdhouse mounted up right under the eave of the house. It has always had wrens in it in the past.

I used the "Henry Milker" that a friend gave me for the first time last night. It worked quite well and is much, much easier on these hands than milking by hand. Thank you Dee!!

I have been working on pruning the mums back this week. Don't want them trying to bloom yet. I will prune them probably one more time before the fourth of July so they are compact (no "floppy" mums here) and then let them do their thing to get ready for Fall blooms. This is very easy to do....just take your pruners or even a pair of sharp scissors and cut them back halfway (depending on height of plant). If you're afraid to try that; just snip right below all the buds. They will send out 2 or 3 new shoots at each stem and have even more buds and flowers this fall. I water with Miracle Gro after pruning.

This is a good week for dividing, moving, planting, etc. Hope to get all that finished up for this season soon; along with some mulching that still needs done before the consistent hot weather sets in.

Have a great week!!
